Root canal treatment (RCT) is required when the blood or nerve supply to the tooth has been affected by trauma, infection or decay. This may or may not be accompanied by symptoms of pain.
Inside each tooth is the pulp, which provides the nutrients (in the blood supply) and nerves to the tooth. It appears like a thread running through the tooth.
Depending on the tooth, anatomy will dictate the number of roots the tooth has and therefore the number of canals present.
When the pulp becomes diseased or infected due to various events, it dies. At this point a root canal treatment is required.
Root canal treatment procedure
- After the initial consultation to determine your suitability for root canal treatment we will book you in with our Periodontist, who is a dental professional specialising in root canal treatments
- The root canal treatment itself is usually over in less than 1 hour. At this stage the pulp will then be removed, the canals cleaned and the tooth sealed
- Once the treatment is complete you will be advised on how to keep your teeth hygiene maintained during the important settling in process
- K2 Dental are here to provide after care and advice whenever you need it, including emergency dental work should it be required
Crowning a tooth
Depending on the amount of tooth structure that is remaining, we may suggest your tooth is crowned in order to protect it from decay.
